Fitness and Coaching Advice: Teaching Kids and Teens to Stay Active

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that kids and teens get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. This includes aerobic exercise, such as running or biking, and muscle-strengthening activities, like jumping rope or pushing.

In addition, physical activity can help improve mental health, reduce the risk of obesity and other chronic conditions later in life.

How To Teach Kids And Teens To Stay Active?

With the increasing prevalence of obesity in children, parents are interested in teaching their kids the importance of physical activity. This, too, is a concern for us at MPower Fitness Coaching.

Children naturally love being active while they are still young, and their parents can help them by finding fun activities that they enjoy doing. Not only is this good for their health, but it also reduces stress in children who may be overwhelmed with schoolwork or social pressures.

Unfortunately, while technology has its benefits, it tends to keep kids indoors and away from activity.

One of the main goals when teaching kids about physical activity should be keeping things fun so that they want to continue exercising throughout life. The CDC recommends a variety of activities like team sports (basketball), dance classes (hip-hop), and playground games (monkey bars).

Whatever your child's interests are - biking around town, swimming at the local pool, or playing video games - make sure you encourage them to be active in some way.

The importance of physical activity cannot be understated, especially for the health of today's kids and teens. While it may seem daunting at first, parents can find fun activities that their children enjoy doing while strengthening important muscles throughout the body.

In addition, keeping things fun so that they want to continue exercising throughout life - both now and when they are older - will help keep your child healthy and active later on.

Fitness and Coaching Tip 1: Physical Activities That Are Essential To Your Overall Health

At MPower Fitness Coaching, we believe that physical activities are essential to your overall health regardless of your age group. Not only is it a great way to stay fit and active, but staying healthy can also make you feel better about yourself.

It is beneficial for your overall health to participate in physical activities, whether it is for kids or adults. It helps you maintain a healthy weight, boosts your heart health, and improves one's mood. In addition, regular exercise can burn calories to help with weight loss.

Additionally, exercise also increases muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination skills, and the accuracy of the movements performed while exercising, which allows us to carry out daily tasks easier.

Children may not know how important staying active is since they have plenty of energy already running through their veins, but they listen to fitness and coaching advice from their parents and elders. This is why it is really important to introduce children to an exercise routine at a young age.

Making time for fitness during their childhood years could turn adulthood much healthier than if they choose not to stay active throughout their lifetime. They'll thank you for the gift of better health when they're older.

Fitness and Coaching Tip 2: Make Fitness Fun for Kids and Teens

The best way to help your children or teens understand why physical activity is essential for their overall health is by encouraging them daily and showing them that fitness can be fun! It's hard to get kids interested in something they think isn't interesting.

However, making it enjoyable will make the process more accessible and more beneficial than if you don't keep an open mind about what activities are out there to participate in.

You could start with simple ideas such as bike riding around the neighborhood for some fresh air and playing tag at the park before dinner time, so everyone has enough energy left over after eating instead of having all that extra sugar running through their veins, leading to weight gain later down the road.

Swimming lessons are a fun way to burn calories, and kids need to know how to swim in case they ever fall into a body of water, especially if no one is around.

Other options you could suggest would be going on hikes with friends, playing tennis at the local park, signing up your child or teen for any physical activities. This includes karate lessons to learn self-discipline while getting their energy out through physically exerting themselves rather than just sitting behind the computer all day long watching Netflix.

Doing this will help them feel good about themselves since being active allows us to have more confidence when trying new things along our journey towards better health.

Fitness and Coaching Tip 3: Adults Should Set a Good Example

Sometimes adults may need to take a step back and realize how important it is for them to stay healthy. For example, adults who participate in physical activities regularly can enjoy better heart health and improved moods and avoid gaining weight, leading to many other diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure.

Adults could do the same type of activity options that we mentioned above with kids or teens. Or, they can keep going to the gym and working out regularly with their friends or a one-on-one fitness coach, just like what we have at MPower Fitness.

Exercise keeps adults of all ages strong and makes it easy for the heart to pump blood throughout our bodies at an efficient rate.

This helps reduce stress levels by releasing endorphins into the brain (happy hormones) since this would act like natural pain killers giving you relief from all your worries each time you feel stressed about anything.
